Upcoming Events Writing Our Way Home is a series of workshops I am offering to support people in the journey of remembering and reconnecting with who they truly are. We are layered in defense mechanisms, opinions of others and cultural expectations. This layering begins early and continues until we find ourselves an adult whose inner light has been covered. The journey of shedding these layers and reconnecting with our true self is a courageous one, for we must battle internal and external forces, some of whom we know, some of whom feel foreign and formidable. I believe writing can offer a unique path to reconnecting and uncovering our inner light, guiding us to the answers we seek and the person we are meant to become. Over a series of 4 workshops, we will utilize poetry and journaling to write our way home. Below is a brief overview of what each workshop will include. While you gain the most from attending all four workshops, you can select the ones that resonate most as well. The Beginning – January 15th, 5:30pm-7:00pm In this first workshop, we will use the well-know poem by George Ella Lyon, Where I’m From, to create our own poems that will capture our unique history and identity. Pieces of Us – February 12th, 5;30pm-7:00pm We each contain a unique inner world comprised of different parts. In this workshop, each person will identify a part of themselves or aspect of their personality that they seek to better understand and nurture. Poetry and journaling will be used in this workshop. Unlearning – March 12th, 5:30pm-7:00pm There are messages and lessons we acquired early on that, while serving us well in the beginning, perhaps are creating more harm in our lives at present. We will explore what lessons we’d like to unlearn and what new lessons we’d like to guide our future. I Am – April 16th, 5:30pm-7:00pm We will conclude this series with creating a poem that captures your identity and inner world at present. Throughout each workshop, additional resources, recommended books, podcast episodes and articles to further guide inner reflection will be shared.
